Language Arts !#   
 
English-  Open Book Test over Adverbs and Adjectives.  Begin Unit on Prepositions on Tuesday. Test over Prepositions and Parts of Speech after the Christmas holidays.
Reading-  finish all notes on Literary forms and elements.  Test next Monday!

Quiz over chapter 3 section B on Monday.  We will start multiplication of decimals on Monday.

 
Science R S
 Quiz on Tuesday over Chapter 3 Lesson 1.  We will begin Lesson 2 “What causes Wind” on Monday.

 
Religion W

 

Advent Season, p. 353. We’ll find out how we can help prepare ourselves this Advent by listening from Isaiah’s words.

5th Grades are Mass sponsors this month

Unit 16 -words with silent consonants.  We will have a regular week of Spelling.  Test in Language Arts, Friday!

Test will be on Tuesday (Part of the test is the recitation of the Preamble)

Class will continue  learning the important “democratic ideas of Constitution and Preamble.” P.  329-333.

 

 

 


 

 

 

School News J 
Tuesday, December 8th- In school Field Trip.  The Houston Museum of Natural Science will be setting up the Discovery Dome featuring “The Star of Bethlehem.”  The cost is $2.00 per student.  The students may wear free dress to school as well.
This is also a Holy Day and we will be attending Mass at 8:30 A.M.
 
December 12 is BREAKFAST WITH SANTA.  There is still tickets available if interested, contact the school office.
 
Please don’t forget to send in toys, games, appliances, etc. for the Interfaith Ministries.  We are also collecting toiletries for the shelters. 
 
School dismisses for Christmas, Thursday, December 17th at 11 A.M. and will not offer Extended Day. This will be our school’s Christmas Mass, which will be @8:30 A.M.
 
The PSA is selling items like hoodies, shirts, and backpacks with school logo, etc. I think I’ve been putting these items as Booster Club stuff, they are things the PSA is selling.  The Booster Club also has sales going on, but I am not sure what they are selling.  I will let you know when I get it all straight.
 
Scrip Cards are available for purchase through the school. The holidays are very near, consider using these for yourself or for gifts!! Many cards to choose from including grocery cards, restuarant cards, local stores, and VISA gift cards.   You can go on-line to www.GLSCRIP.com to see the list. 
 
Yearbooks for sale for $25.00. See information regarding the name plate or fav icon.   Contact Mrs. Rogers or the school office, or just send in money.  Order forms going out in this Friday’s Folder.

Reading- the next quiz over Walk Two Moons is scheduled for thisTues., Nov. 10th.  The final A/R Test over this novel is Nov. 19th.  The next novel we will be reading is titled, Whittington.  Mrs. Pomes is taking prepaid orders only this time.  The cost via the school $5.20 (reg. price $6.50) and must be purchased by Nov. 17th.  The books will be distributed as soon as we return from the Christmas holidays.  We will begin this book Jan. 5th.

Test over Chapter 8 will be on Wednesday, online and paper based. Make sure that you do practice test at www.faithfirst.com. We’ll start Chapter 9 (Different Gifts, Different Stories) on Thursday. On Friday, we’ll do our Project called, Know  a Saint, Make a Friend. Details of this project will be sent to you.

Unit 13-  working with words with the “f,” “ff,” or “ph” spellings.  We will follow a regular full week routine, and the test will be Friday during L. Arts class.

A short quiz will be given over Lesson 1 on Wednesday.

Lesson 2 (Expansion of Trade) starts this week. We’ll review on How to Read Maps (p. 102-103). Pls. know the meaning of the vocab. Currency, caravan and the background of the following persons; Sunni Ali,Zhu Di, Zheng He.

The Booster Club is selling items that are school related!  I think there are shirts, hoodies, etc. so if interested, contact the school for items and prices!

There is a CD availabe to purchase for $15 of Father Cargil’s “Golden Anniversary” from this past summer. Contact the school if interested. 
 
Friday, Nov. 13th - picture retakes and sports pictures!!  Remind students to bring their sports uniforms!!
 
Friday, Nov. 20th- Grandparent’s Luncheon, tell your grandparents now to reserve that day!  Orders must be in by Wed., Nov. 18th!  The lunch will be a Ham Dinner.  The school is looking for volunteers to help serve.  If you are available to help, please let the school office know!

Chapter 8 (The Promise of a Helper) starts this week.  Read p 97-107. There is a test at the end of this Chapter. Make sure that you do practice test at www.faithfirst.com.

Unit 11-  working with suffix words, “ward” and “ly”  Test this week will be on Friday during Language Arts.  There will be daily assignments and writing the words in cursive as typically assigned for a full week.    


 Social Studies $
 

Unit 2 (WORLDS MEET) starts this week.  It covers the following Chapters; 1 – The Age of Exploration, 2 – Contact and Exploration, 3 The Settlement of North America.  There will be an ongoing assessment after every chapter, so pls. read in advance.

This lesson will start on Christopher Columbus’s voyage. Please read  p. 90-91, 94-101.

Language Arts !#  

English- finish, review, and test over Pronouns.  Test is Thursday over Pronoun Unit.

Reading- see Reading schedule for 2nd novel.  First quiz is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 27th, over chapters 1-18.  Keep reading those books! 



Math •…û 

Working on addition and subtraction of decimals.  Also doing some “Halloween Math.” 



 5th Grade Science R S

 Starting lesson “Conserving Natural Resources” in Unit C. No Quiz this week.



Religion W V

 

Test over Chapter 6 will be on October 27 online only.  You can do practice online at www.faithfirst.com.

 A celebration honoring Mary will be done before the end of this month.

Spelling !

 Unit 10- words w/”schwa” sounds in the final syllables.  There will be no test this week due to the short week.  We will, however, take one of the daily grades and use it as a test grade instead.  Work will be comprised of text pages and workbook pages. 



 Social Studies $

Test over chapter 2  (The 4 Major Groups of Native Americans) will be on October 29. Test will include vocabulary and comprehension,  reading, writing and thinking skills. A review Guide and Coverage will be emailed to you.  Corn Husk Doll is due on Oct. 27.



6th Grade Science

 Sixth graders will complete their rock identification project by Thursday. The next lesson,”What is the Rock Cycle?”,will be completed and there will be a quiz on Tuesday, November 3rd.
